New features
E-mail–based assignments
Use new e-mail–based assignments to send stories and graphics as a single assignment package to any contributor in your small workgroup via e-mail. The e-mail package contains all the information needed to update the layout with the added or edited content, so it’s easy to assign tasks and integrate contributions without the need for a shared server.
More powerful Find/Change functionality
Quickly change text and text formatting in documents of any length with enhanced Find/Change functionality. Save your standard searches for easy reuse; customize search scope to include master pages, footnotes, and locked or hidden layers; easily find smart and straight quotes and apostrophes in text; and use grep (regular expressions) to quickly run complex, pattern-based searches.
Robust table creation and formatting
Convert imported tab-delimited text or Excel spreadsheets into tables, and use table and cell styles to quickly format complex tables.
Advanced bullets and numbering
Make quick work of lists by using styles to apply bullets or sequence numbers to text. Import bullets or numbering from Word documents, and create figure or hierarchical numbering.
LiveEdit productivity enhancements
Save time with LiveEdit Assignment workflow enhancements like automated file management. Move a story or graphic from one assignment to another, and InCopy automatically moves the associated file to the new assignment’s folder. Plus, move more freely through your assignment workflow with fewer dialog boxes, and take advantage of dimmed text and graphics surrounding your stories for context without distraction.
Workspace and UI customization
Save any combination of panel arrangements and menu configurations as custom workspaces, and smoothly switch between workspaces depending on your task. Customize menus by color-coding or hiding individual menu items for more direct access to commonly used commands.
Expanded Quick Apply
No more hunting through menus: Expanded Quick Apply lets you instantly select a style, menu command, or script by simply typing a few letters of its name and then pressing Enter to apply it.
Text variables
Create text variables to simplify and automate the use of repeating elements such as headers, footers, product names, and date stamps. Base a text variable on a document value such as page count, a system value such as today’s date and time, or custom text that you enter, and modify it at any time to update all instances of the variable throughout a document.
Text productivity improvements
Work faster with a variety of text-editing enhancements, including the ability to organize styles into folders; change the fonts in style definitions when replacing missing or unused fonts so that all instances are updated; and use the updated Glyphs panel to view recently used glyphs, filter and sort glyphs, and save glyph sets for sharing and reuse.
Expanded support for scripting automation
Speed up editorial processes using scripts written in JavaScript, AppleScript, or VBScript. Quickly create user interfaces for your JavaScript scripts using the ExtendScript Toolkit. Run a script from the Scripts panel; attach a script to an InCopy menu command or keyboard shortcut so that it runs automatically; or access scripts using Quick Apply. Support for compiled JavaScript protects your investment in building scripts.
